– Sasshi's Catchphrase

Chiyo Shiraki (白木しらき 千代ちよ) is a member of AKB0048's Team K. She is one of AKB0048's current successors, holding the name of Rino Sashihara the 11th (11代目だいめ 指原さしはら 莉乃りの).

She is known to be rather out-going and crazy, but also physically lazy and an anime otaku. Anime, manga, games and fandoms occupy a major part in her life and accompany her with a large trivial knowledge about them. Despite an extreme lack of physical skills and being a constant victim to pranks and trolls, Sasshi is a rather cheerful person.

Bio

Appearance

Due to a lack of exposure to natural sunlight, Sasshi's skin is unnaturally pale and often compared to either white or cheese; possibly also because she is half albino through her mother. She is rather small and has ice blue / turqouise eyes. Her eyesight is horrible and she commonly wears perscription contacts; she is rarely seen with glasses. In the past, and still somtimes, Sasshi is seen wearing silver or grey contacts. Her hair is shoulder lenght and usually worn down; sometimes she wears a ribbon or similar. Most notably, her hair is usually dyed white - something that takes lots of time since her natural hair colour is light brown. Her hair therefore is quite unhealthy. On various occasions, Sasshi has been seen with other hair colours; most prominently during Protocol Magi :ORIGIN recordings because her character, Mitsu, has brown hair.

Sasshi's style can be described as 'yume kawaii' and very Magical Girl inspired; sometimes even lolita. She wears lots of frill, ribbon and lace, mainly in white, light or pastel colours. . Her favourite clothing piece seems to be a white, frilly dress with multiple layers and silver parts. Aside ofh er usual style, she does own a couple of pairs of jeans and black/dark blue shirts with gaming motives though.

She often catches the attention of people on the street though; also because she rarely is outside without a parasol - unless it's raining. She has a collection of parasols, but only uses one umbrella which is transparent. Most of her t-shirts tend to have anime, manga, internet or game motives. She likes to wear bracelets and chockers. She doesn't do gravure shots and is rarely seen in exposing clothes; she keeps her upper back always covered and claims that it's a self-confidence thing. She doesn't like swim suits.

Personality

Generally, Sasshi is out-going and positive, fun-loving and open for jokes, fun and usually pranks, as long as they aren't against her. She seems to be aware of every conversation going on and is quite curious; too much for some people's taste. She sometimes ansers with sarcasm or coldly, but is generally a cheering and caring person. She likes to tease others but is more likely to be teased herself; something that she doesn't mind that much, even though she generally doesn't tend to display that.

A little childish about her love for anime, manga and games, she has gotten herself into trouble quite a few times. Despite her love for anime and magical girls, she is a person of science and doesn't believe in magic; albeit she wouldn't mind being a magical girl. When accessing things scientiffically, she often appears cold to others - something that she usually doesn't notice in the first moment. She can be quite a moody teenager. Towards most people, Sasshi is casual and friendly.

Very rarely, Sasshi grows back to her past, rather cold self by building up 'walls' to protect herself from possible bullying. At a few points, she mentioned something about that but rarely talks about it and heads a strong dislike for anything that reminds her of that. Due to her strong dislike for the usage of the word 'depression' to describe general sadness, it's possible that she used to have a clinical depression in the past. The fact that she ha been able to sutdy online rather than attending normal school supports a possible mental illness as well. She is easily guilt-tripped, and has a very strong pride in terms of being 0048's leading computer/internet freak as well as anything she does related to anime.

Skills

Being well known for her lack of physical abiltiies, it is not a surprise that Sasshi is horrible at any sports. Despite the heavy training of 0048, she generally is quite lazy and known for being a horrible dancer. Even though old videos of her (showing her to be very energetic) in primary school are often used as evidence that Sasshi just acts lazy, most members are able to confirm that Sasshi has changed over the years. She is still quite lazy though.

Her singing skills are moderate, and unless she is able to relate well to the character, she isn't a perfect actress either; both her characters in Majisuka Gakuen 00 and Protocol Magi :ORIGIN have strong similarities to her self at the point of the recording, meaning there wasn't much she actually had to act. However, she's an adept MC and a good seiyuu. She has done voice acting outside 0048 already and intends to pursue that path in the future as well.

Sasshi is naturally curious and intelligent; she is mathematically talented - her best subjects are maths, physics and computer science. Going by Miku, she has very good grades. However, she isn't very good in interpreting work and similar and often gets carried away in the wrong direction. She is fluent in Japanese and English; something that she is known to be very proud onto. She can speak both languages nearly accentless, but often slips into her Japanese accent when talking English just because she thinks it's cute. She knows various computer languages, and has basic hacking skills that she learned from her aunt who is a white hacker, working for the AEPS.

Her prime strenght and source of pride is her (sometime very trivial) knowledge about various anime, manga, games and 0048. Having grown up surrounded by 0048 WOTA, Sasshi always loved the group and watched every video, she could get her hands on. She has a huge collections of manga - both physically and digitally and often appears to have watched every existing anime (albeit this is false). She also has many games and enjoys playing them, as well as occasional cosplaying.

She is terrible in any form of combat; she does know how to turn on a micsaber but in actual combat is horrible. She is even worse in gun combat and hand-to-hand; she is best in using LAS which often remind her of video games, but because of that comparison, many members question how good she is in them. She has the curious ability of staying awake for a long time, while sleeping like a stone at other times.

Chronology

Early Life

Chiyo grew up on Akibastar, and until attending first grade, she had a very happy life. Her father worked as a full-time WOTA, being in a respected position, and her mother as secretary in an unnamed company; both were avid 0048 fans and she was surrounded by the group her whole life. She was always close to her twin brother Riku, whom she considered her best friend. Because watching anime and playing games made for preschool children bored her, she started teaching herself various subjects with the help of the internet and books two years before school. She quickly advanced through the curriculum, primarily with the intention to read manga and play games on her own, but also out of general interest. Her curiosity for knowlege and new things grew and she was ahead of school before even starting. At first never told people of her secret studying. She also had a childhood black cat, named Luna.

When she started first grade, she was immediately ahead of class. She thought it to be cool; she was proud that she could read manga in class and still ace a test, but her behaviour and strangeness soon scared classmates off. By the end of her first year at school, she was an outsider and victim to indirect bullying and direct bullying; for example often being called a hypocrite - something that she might was in the past to some degree to become part of friend groups. While still wanting to know more and learn, Chiyo started to hate school. By the end of second grade, she managed to be able to attend school only half the times, taking most classes via correspondence. By the end of fourth grade, she only attended school to submit work and to sit exams. She stayed at home through a psychologist's diagnosis which is unknown to the public.

She grew into the person she was when joining 0048: a young girl who was more used to chatting to people than talking to people, and a shut-in; someone who appeared quite cold but actually wasn't. The only reasons for her to leave her room seemed to be conventions where she kept going to. While her grades never lacked, her social life was - to her mother at least, not in Chiyo's opinion - nonexistent. Her mother grew a dislike for her daughter's behaviour - it was hurting her pride. All her friends had out-going daughters who liked their social life. Riku wasn't a daughter and couldn't replace that.

SC0123

When Chiyo turned thirteen, her mother started to plan her getting out of her room again: Chiyo would audition for 0048. Her mother, knowing Chiyo's style being very strange and her lack of stamina, didn't expect her daughter to actually pass the first round, but she hoped that she'd make friends at the first round - which on Akibastar was a normal casting. She attended, and surprisingly passed. While not being sure if she wanted to become an idol (meeting people did not sounds like a great idea), the possibility of insider information and meeting the idols of 0048 was reason enough to try it for her.

Chiyo attended the second round of the 152nd Generation auditions. Participating in the (faked) auditions, her determination to join 0048 soon grew. Meeting the members (and her oshimen, Hikari, which she wouldn't admit until years later) encouraged her, and she managed to pass alongside the 152nd Generationn on August 21. She remained rather quiet about her past, similar to when she was active online, only revealing that she gets along with her family, has two WOTA parents, a twin brother and lived as shut-in; the public had little idea why.

Her life in 0048 quickly took up pace when Akane was became a successor within her first week in 0048. Alongside this, she also used her online presence to build a close connection to fans which made her one of the more popular members of AKB0048. While giving up her role as an admin in the biggest AKB0048 fan forum online, she and her blog WhiteGhost remain a core part of the community. She was chosen to be part of the A-Side of KISEKI. During her early days in 0048, she grew close to Nami and Hoshina who soon became her closest friends. She also grew closer to other members, such as Akari. She was part of Majisuka Gakuen 00 where she played a character based on herself, White.

During the Halloween Shuffle Concert, Chiyo was sorted into Team K - much to her dismay. By then, her relationship with Hikari had turned into a push-pull relationship. Behaving a bit tsundere around her, Chiyo had become a constant annoyance for Hikari with her phone which from now on constantly disappeared. She also was part of Kyuuseishu's A-side. In the end of the year, her close friend Hoshina was succeded - something that she was quite happy about. During SC0123, she opened up a lot.

SC0124

In january, she placed #8 in the Janken Taikai and therefore was part of Himitsu no Challenge where she also had her first center position in Running Blind (which, unfortunately, was a typical Team K song). By then, she had compeltely grown out of her shell and actually became one of 0048's best handshake sellers; not because she was a fisher but because she remembered every single person who was visiting her and spoke to her. Being 0048's insider, she had quickly grown into the role.

When the 153rd Generation joined, Chiyo saw her chance to convert Miyoko into a fellow otaku - considering that she wasp retty much a blank slate in terms of anime and manga. She succeded and Miyoko grew into one of her closest friends. Once again selected for the A-Side, Chiyo was part of Reality, again to her own dismay. Her election poster featured her in a cosplay of an altered version of Cure White. In the following election, she placed #8 again. Following the release of Infinity no Moyou, it was her time to succeed. Shortly before, because of fainting into her tomato soup, she aquired the new nickname TomatoGhost. During her own succession concert, she became Sashihara Rino the 11th - much to her best friend's dismay.

To her, none the less, the kouhaku in the end of the year was the highlight because of the mysterious VTR which she (correctly) identified as a Magical Girl-genre drama trailer. However, unfortunately, she wasn't part of the senbatsu of the new album and therefore couldn't spoiler everyone about the surprise brand performance of Orchestra. Instead, she got the center for the Undergirls track, Firefly though. She is still a bit salty that Acchan, Nami and Akarin didn't tell her either way. She did get to perform a cover of Ie though.

SC0125

In January, her best friend Nami finally became a successor as well. In the soon-following Janken Taikai, she placed #8 again - realising the curse of the #8 place that had been placed onto her. Her election goal was to rank either below or above. A joke - Sasshi personally cared little about her ranking, as long as she'd get the senbatsu information. As result, she was part of Castle of Glass, as well as Rose no Hibi afterwards.

Fortunately, she did not rank #8 again but #5. Her speech focused onto her reason to be in 0048; not to be popular but to have fun, and a few fans often joke that her speech could have been adepted to any place. Sasshi later confirmed that she had pre-planned it and that her intention to talk about that was for every single spot. She was part of Asphodel no Sekai. Her election poster featured her in a cosplay of White Ghost from Protocol Magi :ORIGIN.

Shortly afterwards, Sasshi teamed up with Miyoko as Arashi Taeko to accompany a group of hopefuls for the 154th generation audition. While her group passed the audition in the end, the accidentally got arrested by real DES - and no one had bothered with telling Sasshi that it was meant to be a faked audition. Nevertheless, the Otaku Sisters continued to act as mentors for the generation and Sasshi had Yuuna (now officially Yuuchan) join Team Nerd - whenever she wanted or not. MCing the 154th Generation debut series, she got to announce the senbatsu of Kinou no Teki wa Mirai no Nakama which featured her among others, and Miyoko as center, as well also Masshiro na Mirai wo Irodzukeru.

In the end of the year, her close friend Akari finally succeeded too, and she met her brother. She managed to turn the Satoshi into a friend. While not playing too much of a role in this part, she kept in touch with Satoshi a bit, and is probably one of the reasons why he supports Yuuna that much. Later on, in December during 0048's tour, she often fell victim to Hikari-san's trolling.

SC0126

In early SC0126, she met Karin and Aoi who soon joined 0048 on a day off. During the Janken Taikai, she placed #8 again (and thus was part of Kaetai Mirai), much to her dismay and was once again placed into Team K. In the following months, her best friend Acchan annoucned graduation due to personal reasons.

On April Fools Day, her fellow members learned of her (slightly over the top) admiration for Hikari-san - much to her great dismay. She tried to sell it off as an april fools prank by her brother, but not everyone believes that. Only three days later, she was trapped in the old Akibastar Hotel with fellow members as AKBing00! recording which she took quite chilled; she liked horror after all. When Miyagi was hurt seriously, she - alongside Yuuna and Harrupi - was one of the few members who remained rather calm and cold; her faith into science remaining strong. She called the prank as well.

Being part of Sekiranun no Geijutsu, Sasshi was once again in front of the election promotion. This year, she themed her own campain "No Sasshi No Life", a reference to her character song and the anime No Game No Life. She also declared that if she was to win, she would change her hair to a colour and style decided by an online poll, but also noted that she doesn't aim for #1; it's more of a joke. Generally, she tended to promote other members on her SNS more than herself; a habit that she developed over the years.

During the election period's prelims, she was placed #2; much to her dismay. Knowing that she actually had a shot on placing #1, she started trying to convince her fans of voting for other members, such as Haruppi, because she did not want to dye her hair. She even voted for Tomomo herself to avoid winning; she did not disclose the amount, but rumours claim that she was seen walking out of a music store with ridiculously large bags.

In the Unit Taikai, she formed a unit with Yuuna and Haruppi - Team Nerds. They ended up dressing up in children-like halloween costumes - Sasshi wore a white curtain with eye holes calling herself ghost. She didn't get the memo that Yuuna and Haruppi would dress up as what they were a nerd of; Sasshi later on stated that otherwise, she'd have worn her Sailor Moon cosplay. Both her team mates didn't apppear as keen as Sasshi did though. Later on, she came to change into a Sailor Moon cosplay. Her team won the first round against Muses Écarlates. In the second round, she performed Let it Go from Frozen with her team. She was the one to make her team perform the song.

When her friend Yuuna had her succession fever, she visibly started to panic about her health, which she'd later, as a joke, excuse that her first best friend (Acchan) graduated, her other best friend left them for The Knights (Miyoko), Yuuna was the last one left - conviniently forgetting Haruppi for the sake of the excuse. She was overly excited during the concert, shouting around a lot.

  • Ethymology

Shiraki, in Japanese, is written as 白木しらき. しら can be translated as white and as tree.

Chiyo, in Japanese, is written as 千代ちよ. can be translated as 1000 and can be translated as generation or years.

Sasshi doesn't like it to be called "Sashihara-Senpai" or "Sashihara-san". Aside of Sasshi (さっしー) and Sashiko (さしこ), the nickname, she inherited from the original member, she is also often called WhiteGhost, her mainly used username in social media networks, and TomatoGhost (トマートー・ゴースト) by Honoka. Miyagi calls her Canvas (キャンバス); a reference to her appearance and constant role as paintball target. In the past, before becoming a shut-in, she was called Chi-Chi (ちち) by her classmates, and she hates it. Her com name is Ghost.

As far as she knows, her parents didn't chose her name with any particular reason. She likes it, but because she associates the name with being bullied, prefered to be called White or WhiteGhost as trainee. Yoyo was fine, but she would have preffered the former. Because she was in the same class as her brother, she was commonly called by her given name rather than by her surname to avoid confusion.

    • There have been various speculations surrounding Sasshi's financial status, and rumours that she may be wealthier than members such as Mayuyu and Haruppi. Evidence for that includes:
      • She appears to be able to buy multiple new phones per week. Some claim that this may be due to a deal with Luke's, or the management actually returning her phones after being confiscated.
      • She bought custom-made Dungeons & Dragons dice for the entirety of 0048, without even bothering to entertain the idea that some might not want to play. Something going against this is the fact that Sasshi posted about this on social media and specifically mentioned the producer, leading to the possibility of sponsorship.
    • As a trainee, she didn't aim to succeed Kojiharu seriously - it was more of a joke.
    • She is very sensitive to temperature changes, no matter if heat or cold.
    • Her room at her family's home includes a shrine for Iwata Karen the 14th and lots of posters of her.
    • She has very heavy hayfever and is allergic to dust.
    • She almost always sits cross-legged.
